A photo of my broken rod.Note screws are soundly intact. Note stretched big end and dented sides from striking sides of cylinder opening as the big end opened prior to letting go. The added mass takes its toll. The crankpin journal showed no signs of bearing stress.A used set of aluminum rods were fitted and AFAIK the engine is still fine. All of the aluminum rod failures I know of showed definite signs of bearing failure. Metal transfer, scoring and heat discoloring. Who knows?
