I thought I took more pics of the unpacking but I guess not! Everything was in bubble wrap and all that was encased in the most green packing peanuts you ever saw in your life. IOW well packed.

Here are the lower strut tubes.. VERY thin walled. I made new ones some 4130 steel and got a little more wall thickness to help toughen them up. look close: the one on the right is stock, left is my new one.

I manufactured (from a stainless 10-32 bolt) a pin to replace the stupid roll pin from stock and threaded the hole in the housing. That little stub shaft (above my pin) goes in the strut before the spring a spacer that takes up space and compresses the spring more. It was TWICE as long as this and the struts were almost impossible to compress. It's like they bored the shafts too deep and had to add the spacer - then calibrated it to make the struts almost uncomprressable.

Ultimately I had to thread the center of the roll pin, install a 4-40 bolt and them beat the sh*t ou of the housing to get it to come out. You'll see I redesigned it.

Do NOT use this orange line, fellas. The Sullivan ProFlex is great stuff. It lasts FOREVER and it's the only line I trust to go inside my fuel tanks.

The one and ONLY screw I forgot to locktite. I actually landed the plane with no damage and walked over and picked up the wheel. I fell of at about 350 feet!

This set up works GREAT in service. However, after flying this aircraft at its first meet I found the moving it around by the tail is tricky. The tail is HEAVY and slips out of your had easily. One time it dropped and broke the whole retract bulkhead loose! Had to Hysol it back together at the meet! Now I use a lanyard looped around the tail to drag it around.

as you see here I lined the little bulkhead exit tubes with plastic guide tubes to manage the cables during retraction cycle. YES I used the stock micro fine cables. I let you know how long the last. I think we might be surprised.

The brass shim was a couple thousandths too big so I had to bore the sockets. Maybe .005 - not enough to affect mechanical strength.

Strut stubs were .014 undersize! Ideally they should be a TIGHT fit prior to tightening the trunnion clamp bolt.

Like many Chinese machines (like my lathe and vertical mill when new) what you receive is a pile of very nice parts the are NOT final finished. One just needs to do the critical final fitting.
