Picked up an HHR back in 2008 because it was the smallest car that could carry my largest plane. Actually it can carry two or three most of the time. There are trap doors at the rear to access tail lamps from inside. I picked up a spare pair at the local junkyard and used them to mount the Powerpole outlets. The HHR battery is at the rear below a trap door makes wiring a breeze. While I was at it I added a cigarettte lighter outlet as well.

The 12 volt 12 AH battery in my flight box is a very lightweight, Lithium Ion motorcycle battery. It has a push button on top to activate an LED bar graph State Of Charge display. I added a few holes to the cover so I could make use of that feature. The battery is kept topped off by connecting the power panel to the Powerpole system.

The wonderful Sirius SMART CHARGE does a fine job for most packs. Fully automatic it will top off a typical pack in under 20 minutes. Charges transmitter and receiver at the same time Other chargers for other packs but this is the workhorse!

This little bugger is awesome! Fully automatic fast charge or a sustained slow charge option. I can snap on a dead driver when leaving home and arrive with a fresh glow driver to match the receivers and transmitters So easy you may have to actually try pretty hard to fail.

A photo of my broken rod.Note screws are soundly intact. Note stretched big end and dented sides from striking sides of cylinder opening as the big end opened prior to letting go. The added mass takes its toll. The crankpin journal showed no signs of bearing stress.A used set of aluminum rods were fitted and AFAIK the engine is still fine. All of the aluminum rod failures I know of showed definite signs of bearing failure. Metal transfer, scoring and heat discoloring. Who knows?

Seems the folks at Saito forgot to ask you? Perhaps they just wanted to waste money or add nose weight Sorry but my machine practices are based on solid principles. Enough real experience here to set your feelings aside on this one. As I said earlier, not a must do But two screws at 90 deg on a plain shaft are a very common practice and good design.

Like I said, a good mechanical design detail. Often employed with round shaft drive designs. There are several very good reasons;)

You can get pretty close with these. A Vernier Bevel will get you closer. I gave my Vernier to my son before I retired. They cost about $500 and I no longer need to work that close. Your best bet however involves Trigonometry;)
